Job Description
Summer Intern: Green Building Consultant/Simulation Engineer
Location: Positions Available in San Francisco & Boston
The Company:
Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) Ltd. is an international company (headquarters in Glasgow, Scotland) with offices around the world. We provide sustainability consulting services as well as developing the innovative performance analysis software tools, The Virtual Environment (a.k.a. The VE). The VE simulates a building’s performance during the design phase and quantifies predicted energy consumption, daylight availability, air movement, and other important metrics. As the industry rises to meet the challenge of sustainable development, the demand for this type of detailed analysis is growing rapidly. To meet that demand we are looking for motivated students to join our team and help our clients design more efficient buildings through the application of The VE.
The Candidate:
• Engineering, (building design, building services, mechanical, environmental, architectural or similar) or architecture student with a demonstrated technical focus.
• Experience with types of building simulation software is a plus (daylighting, thermal, computational fluid dynamics, etc.), however experience using the it not an explicit requirement. IES will provide full training to the right candidate(s).
• Strong communicator with an interest in diverse experiences and quantifying impacts to inform sustainable design
The Role: Play an integral role in IES’s US consulting team (San Francisco or Boston). Provide creative simulation analysis for developing sustainable building designs, and advise clients on the implementation of innovative, high efficiency strategies. You will be assisting to redefine the industry during these exciting times, and we guarantee you will not be bored! Specific tasks include:
• Participation in consulting project teams
• Research on relevant software development issues
• Software testing
• Developing case study content
Compensation: Paid and unpaid internships are available depending on experience and background. Competitive wages will be offered.
Dates: Early June through late August (will discuss exact dates with candidate to work around school schedules)
